Solo Lino AcademySOLO LINO ACADEMY provides the young designers of tomorrow the opportunity to discover and experiment with flax/linen in all its incarnations. A partnership with POLI.Design,

The “Flax/Linen Design” programme, defined in collaboration with Prof. Giovanni Maria Conti and directed by Ornella Bignami, engages thirdyear students from different disciplines (fashion, knitwear, design, textiles) in an in-depth reflection on the qualities and performances specific to flax/linen and the development opportunities for innovative products in fashion, design and sports.

The proposed theme seeks «to emphasize flax’s modernity and its versatility: this natural fibre responds to changes in society that affect everyone. It offers well-being and comfort to mankind and respects the environment, from its cultivation to the finished product.”

The students, organised in small groups, give their vision of flax, green fibre of the future, through varying interpretations. To ensure that each idea can realise its full potential for creativity, students will be supported by flax/linen industry companies which will provide yarn and fabrics, as well as experts in the area of composite flax.

The best prototypes will be retained by CELC, which will offer them visibility through its Bowes during AMO IL LINO, via Montenapoleone in Milano (May 4th to 11th). The students welcomed the Comfort and Sustainable Development theme with great enthusiasm and curiosity. Visits to the Linen Dream Lab in Milan have plunged students into a visual, tactile and emotional experience that will undoubtedly be translated into their projects.

The education and instruction is continuing in other institutions, and also involves the fashion and design students of Istituto Marangoni. A course on the theme of New Sustainable Fashion – developing innovative business models based on sustainable development, and with flax/linen occupying a central role in such values, will also be offered at the Milan Fashion Institute.
